How
Does Sunday School Work?
Sunday
School is held on Sunday mornings,
except during
the holidays. Children and teachers attend the first part of the
worship service and leave for their Sunday School classes after the
children's story. We have classes for different age groups as well as a
nursery for the little ones. Our music ministry is provided by the
Christian band, Community.
We use the Seasons of the Spirit
curriculum, a
lectionary-based resource created by publishers and denominational
partners in four countries. Our children in the Sunday school are
studying and interacting with the same scriptures as the adults; it
makes for great family discussions throughout the week.
Seasons of the Spirit is
unique. More than a
curriculum – it’s a resource for our whole
congregation. Our
vision with Seasons of the
Spirit is to provide
God's people with lectionary-based, ecumenical resources that empower
all ages to be transformed in Christ as they:
- explore meaning and mystery in
the Bible;
- celebrate in worship,
sacraments, education, and
service;
- engage in ministries of love,
justice, and
witness;
- and live in inclusive
communities of faith shaped
and led by the Holy Spirit.
Age
Groups
Crèche and
Nursery: new-borns
to 3 years
Children
0-3 years have a special room, the Nursery, where they can be fed and
changed by their parents during the worship service. There is also a
free babysitting service for this age group in this room, staffed by
experienced babysitters who will play with your young ones giving you
the opportunity to recharge your spiritual energy in the church
service. The Nursery is stocked with a
variety of age
appropriate toys. The room
is
also equipped with
a loudspeaker, such that one can still follow the worship service.
Multi-age: 3 - 11
years
Children
3-11 years are invited to join their parents for the first 15 minutes
of the worship service. During this time our minister tells them a
story and they sing a song with the band Community. Following this
time, the children leave the service and gather together with their
teachers in the church hall. Through Bible stories, songs, crafts and
drama, the children are encouraged to develop a sense of their
community and their place in God’s world. We listen to their
thoughts and give opportunities for leadership and public speaking in a
friendly place. Sunday school is an enriching activity for children in
so many ways and we encourage parents to come and join in with us at
any time.
