Every Friday morning, except July and August, announcements are e-mailed to members and adherents (those who have given their e-mail address). These announcements are also made available in printed form for those who do not have e-mail and distributed with the Worship Service Bulletin the following Sunday morning. In addition, the announcements are posted on a bulletin board in the hallway.
Aug 21, 2008:
- August: Rev. Ian Smith will be on vacation the entire month of August. For any pastoral emergencies requiring the presence and/or services of a United Church of Canada minister while Rev. Smith is on vacation, please contact the office at 514-626-4795 or sguc@stegennys.org and our secretary, Donna Olinik, will put you in touch with one of Rev. Smith's colleagues who will be covering for him for such emergencies. Our worship services continue in August with guest leaders.
Pre-Authorized Remittance Program - also known as PAR - … What is PAR? PAR
is a great way to simplify making your financial contribution to
Ste-Genny's. You don't need to fill out weekly offering envelopes
and you don't have the worry of having to "catch up" if you are unable
to make it to church because of sickness or vacation. All you have
to do is ask Ross Wilson, Ste. Genny's envelope steward, or Donna
Olinik, our church secretary, or any member of the Finance Committee
for a PAR authorization form. The form is also available on-line here. The form is easy to complete and should be returned to Ross so you can be entered in the PAR program. All the members of the Finance Committee are ready and willing to answer any questions you may have about PAR. Your participation will make a difference.- Stewardship Seconds 2008: Ignore the siren call of "there's never enough for me." The more we give, the less we will find we really need.

- AFTER SERVICE FELLOWSHIP
volunteers are needed to set-up, serve and clean-up for our weekly
After Service Fellowship times. Speak with Judy Thompson or sign
up on the sheet located at the back of McNevan Hall. Fellowship resumes
September 10.
- Crafty Ladies resume September 4.
- Wayfarers day time study group resumes September 8, Wayfarers evening study group resumes September 10.
- August 24, September 14, 18 – The entire service will be translated in AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE FOR THE DEAF.
- Saint Columba House – Over the past several years, we have received a request from Saint Columba House to help out with school supplies for children in the community. Unfortunately normally the request comes at a point in time that many of the children only receive their supplies after the start of the school season. With this in mind, we are looking for donations and hoping to distribute them to the children before the beginning of the school year. Donations of the following would be greatly appreciated: Hilroy copy books, Hilroy loose leaf, Three-hole binders, Duo-Tangs, Pencils, Coloured Pencils (Laurentian), Blue pens, Red pens, Rulers, Erasers, Scotch tape, Yellow-highlighters, Liquid paper, Spiral Notebooks, Lunch Boxes, Geometry sets, Scissors, Glue Sticks, Lepages white glue, Kleenex boxes. Watch for sales beginning in July. Please bring your donations to the church office prior to August 3 so that we can deliver your donations. A box has been placed in the church for your donations. We will make sure Saint Columba House gets them.

September 24, 9:30 am - 3:30 pm: The Vision and Transformation
committee of Montreal Presbytery will hold a workshop at Ste-Genny's on
Leading Through Courages Conversation, see the poster here.
- Help Wanted - Community is looking for a roadie/sound person to man the controls during our practices and performances. If you are interested, please contact Lisa Byer-de Wever by e-mail, or speak to her after the Sunday Service.
- HEALING PATHWAY will be offering Five Minute Healing Sessions on the first Sunday of each month during Fellowship time, except during the summer break.
- CRAFTY LADIES: On summer break; returning after summer – September 6.
- Wayfarers: On summer break. After the summer
the daytime group switches to Thursdays and meetings resume September
10 and 11.
- Lay Education Opportunities – 5 Denominational Sources – See our Bulletin Board in the corridor or check out Programs at The United Theological College (www.utc.ca).
- Ste-Genny's now has a site on WonderCafe. Go to http://wondercafe.ca, select Church Search, search by Name and enter Ste-.
- 50th ANNIVERSARY: 2008 will mark the 50th year of the founding of our church. It's not too early to start thinking of what special events could be planned during that year. Please let us have your ideas! Contact Rev. Ian Smith, Allan Locke or Donna Olinik.
- STAMPS NEEDED: In order to save on office costs, would you donate some stamps to the church office? You could bring them to the office and leave them in the designated envelope on my desk, or mail them to the church if you do not plan to be in the building in the near future! Emerging Spirit is an initiative focused on establishing and nurturing a new relationship between the United Church and Canadians, especially those between the ages of 30-45 who are one of the first Canadian generations to grow up largely outside of the church.
Emerging Spirit is working to build connections, nurture relationships, and welcome people to The United Church of Canada. The findings show that while many of those in this demographic (30-45 year olds) have a deep interest in spiritual issues, they perceive "organized religion" as judgmental, arrogant, and boring.
To help bridge the gap between non-churchgoers and The United Church of Canada, Emerging Spirit is launching WonderCafe, a new, highly interactive website.
WonderCafe will offer users who might not yet be comfortable to step into a church the opportunity to freely discuss faith and spirituality on their own terms, along with others who are interested in similar issues.
In November 2006 each United Church pastoral charge received a kit to help them connect with WonderCafe. It provides:
- tools to leverage the national media campaign and WonderCafe locally,
- templates for bulletins, posters, and announcements
- ways the media campaign and WonderCafe can be used by your congregation,
- elements of the campaign which can be adapted for your context,
- and more.

hasn’t
returned, let us know so that they can be contacted. We want to keep
the lines of communication open and find out why some members have
stopped attending!
- If
you have a service
you would like to offer, to our members, let the office know so that we
can pass on the information (i.e.: painting, washing windows, basic
house cleaning, driving to appointments, etc.)
- If
you have a need for
aid / service in any area let the office know so that we can do our
best to find the help you need.
- Please
let the office
know if you know of anyone who is sick or in distress and in need of
our prayers.
Becoming a New
Member?
If you are a youth, we offer confirmation classes starting in January 9, 2008. Registration deadline is January 6, 2008. Details onfthe 2008 confirmation classes are posted here.
If you are currently a member at another congregation or parish, you can become a member at Ste-Genny's through Transfer of Membership or Reaffirmation of Faith. We have Reception of New Members several times per year. If you like to become a new member, please contact the office for further information. The New Member Registration form is available here.

USED PRINTER CARTRIDGES: We want to THANK YOU for your donations of used printer cartridges. Ste-Genny's received our first cheque in the amount of $52.75 in April 2006, simply for collecting what we would often simply throw away. Keep Up The Great Work!
Donate your empty used printer cartridges to Ste-Genny's. Just drop your empty injet and laser cartridges (as well as your neighbour's) in the collection box located in the church.
