Every Friday morning, except July and August, announcements are e-mailed to members and adherents (those who have given their e-mail address). These announcements are also made available in printed form for those who do not have e-mail and distributed with the Worship Service Bulletin the following Sunday morning. In addition, the announcements are posted on a bulletin board in the hallway.

What is Emerging Spirit?

Emerging Spirit is an initiative focused on establishing and nurturing a new relationship between the United Church and Canadians, especially those between the ages of 30-45 who are one of the first Canadian generations to grow up largely outside of the church.

Emerging Spirit is working to build connections, nurture relationships, and welcome people to The United Church of Canada. The findings show that while many of those in this demographic (30-45 year olds) have a deep interest in spiritual issues, they perceive "organized religion" as judgmental, arrogant, and boring.

To help bridge the gap between non-churchgoers and The United Church of Canada, Emerging Spirit is launching WonderCafe, a new, highly interactive website.

WonderCafe will offer users who might not yet be comfortable to step into a church the opportunity to freely discuss faith and spirituality on their own terms, along with others who are interested in similar issues.

In November 2006 each United Church pastoral charge received a kit to help them connect with WonderCafe. It provides:

  • tools to leverage the national media campaign and WonderCafe locally,
  • templates for bulletins, posters, and announcements
  • ways the media campaign and WonderCafe can be used by your congregation,
  • elements of the campaign which can be adapted for your context,
  • and more.
Grace and Peace,
Jim Vanstone

Bulletin and E-mail Announcements
As much as possible, all information should be given to Donna prior to Wednesday to be included in the Church bulletin. Announcements from the pulpit should be kept to a minimum.

Every Friday morning, except July and August, announcements are e-mailed to members and adherents. Our e-mail messages are scanned for viruses on all incoming and outgoing mail! We want to save on expenses and, by printing fewer inserts, we can cut costs. These announcements are also made available in printed form for those who do not have e-mail and distributed with the Worship Service Bulletin the following Sunday morning. In addition, the announcements are posted on a bulletin board in the hallway. If you are not currently receiving our e-mail announcements, and would like to receive them, please send an e-mail to sguc@stegennys.org. Please add Donna to your "favourites" so that she does not fall into junk mail or Spam!

Healing Pathway Prayer Shawls
THE HEALING PATHWAY TEAM has started a Prayer Shawl Ministry. The Prayer Shawls are being blessed by Rev. Ian Smith and members of the Healing Pathway Team at a Prayer Shawl Blessing Ceremony and then given to those seeking God's Healing and Comfort. If you would like to support our new Prayer Shawl Ministry by knitting a prayer shawl or donating some wool, please speak to a member of our team.

Somebody Else

I know a fellow named “Somebody Else”
There’s nothing this fellow can’t do.
He’s busy from morning ‘til late at night
While he’s substituting for you.
You’re asked to do this, or asked to do that
And what is your ready reply?
I think you’d better get somebody else
He’ll do much better than I.
So much to do in this weary old world,
So much and the workers are few.
And “Somebody Else” is weary and worn
From substituting for you.
Next time you are asked to do something,
Just give them this reply.
If somebody else can give time and self,
Then for goodness sake, so can I!
