Community is Ste-Genny's Singing Ministry group. We are a group of people, young and old, who love music and love singing. We employ a wide variety of
instruments, guitars, drums,
flute, musical keyboard and
various hand held instruments. We perform songs with the
congregation each Baptism Sunday and, once a month, participate in
"circle time" with
the Sunday School
and Youth to teach them a
new theme song. We also
take part in
special services such as the Christmas pageant and the Christmas Eve
service. At least once a year we
organize a Coffeehouse,
with proceeds divided
equally among a chosen local
charitable organization, a church-related project, and Community
itself. The Coffeehouse originally scheduled for March 21 with West
Island Community Shares as our local charity has
been postponed until the Fall. Groups that have received funding
include West
Island
Palliative Care Residence,
Old
Brewery Mission, West Island
Citizen
Advocacy, AVATIL,
VOBOC,
West-Island
Women's Shelter, Big
Brothers Big Sisters of West-Island, The
Shriner's Hospital for Children and On-Rock Ministries. Our music ministry also
takes us into the
wider community for outreach. In the past we have played at the
Ecumenical Picnic, Norma Mc-Alister Senior Home, Side
Door Coffee
House, Château
Dollard, Roxboro
United Church, Lakeside
Heights Baptist Church and a Presbytery Youth Retreat. On
March 31, 2005
Community sang at Herbert
Purcell's Grade 3-6 Moral Religious Education class. On May
18,
2006
Community sang again at Purcell
Academy.
This time, kids
from kindergarten all the way to grade 6 and staff were in attendance.
It was fabulous. All had a
blast, kids, teachers and players. The kids
got up and
were clapping, singing, smiling, etc.
Many
seeds were
planted. God works wonders. God is awesome. In July 2006 a group of
about 15 Community members and their kids, went to the
Gaspésie
and
sang during a Sunday service at St. Andrew's United Church in New
Richmond, QC. In May 2007 Community performed at the
Annual
General Meeting of Montreal
&
Ottawa
Conference. In October 2007 we held a very successful Coffeehouse. Another
successful Coffeehouse
was held in April 2008. You
can
find
the program, and
thank you to our sponsors, here.
In May 2008 we participated in a Coffeehouse at Inspiration 08, an
educational event organized by Montreal
&
Ottawa
Conference. In February 2010 we organized a very special Coffeehouse: Haiti Relief
Fundraiser. In April 2010 we had a two evening joint Coffeehouse with
Roxboro United Church. BY THE WAY, for additional information about Community, see this myspace website, set up and maintained by two of our members. |
